We revolutionised the way that the Currys’ team communicate

Currys is a global leader in consumer electronics providing complete solutions across the value chain. With over 2000 stores globally and £10.5bn in revenue, Currys is one of the largest tech retailers in the world

Challenge

To seamlessly re-platform the Currys intranet.

This vast internal framework ensures the smooth running of the entire business and empowers store colleagues to better serve customers in-store. The intranet encompasses core business functions including HR, Finance, Services and the Store Colleague Product Portal. the human tech agency were tasked with the digital transformation project of migrating the system from Immediacy; an unsupported legacy content management system (CMS) to a custom built CMS.

The challenge here was to complete the entire CMS migration without affecting core business function and ensuring the smooth transition between systems. The business need for this project arose from a skills gap within Currys, who now have no in-house knowledge or experience in Immediacy remaining.

What we did

The project consisted of five key stages - environment set up, template creation, custom plugins/controls, CMS migration and testing.

Using our in-depth knowledge of the Currys’ business we began mapping out the existing intranet infrastructures and their relationship to one another. This gave us a waterfall approach to the project which allowed us to tackle each area of the business in turn and within the priority framework Currys had detailed at the start of the project. To supplement our existing understanding of the work, we deployed project teams on-site at Currys headquarters to really get under the skin of the workflow and user journeys that staff were undertaking everyday.

Our digital transformation teams then began the process of migration and integration with the new custom built CMS. Our understanding of the psychology of users meant we knew certain elements were pivotal to the project success: understanding of the content, security and reasons for use.

Result

We successfully re-platformed the Currys intranet reducing the overall time it takes for employees to interact with their specific intranet system which increased efficiencies across the entire business, from finance to in-store Currys colleagues.

Currys now have a future proof internal system with a fully integrated suite of intranet sites that will drive the business forward and integrate with any future additional systems. Our development approach allows for the ease of integration with future back office systems giving Currys greater flexibility when selecting 3rd party tech solutions.

We successfully collaborated with many depts across a number of sites and locations both domestically and internationally resulting in a streamlined, cohesive project environment that allowed for delivery on time and on budget.

"After a number of years using Immediacy to manage intranet sites within our business, the decision was made to move to all content for our existing communications platform on to Envisage. Having already worked with Greenwood Campbell for a number of years, before making this decision, we sought advice from them due to their understanding of our business as well as expertise in this field. During the project we encountered a number of challenges due to the complexity of our IT Infrastructure and on numerous occasions Greenwood Campbell were able to contribute to the solutions to overcome them, providing support and advice whenever required. Their technical knowledge, team work and determination was invaluable to the success of the project."
