Objective

To consolidate a multi-site solution of 36 individual websites into one powerful and dynamic website, maintaining brand equity and rankings.

Enhancing user experience while also redesigning the website's look and feel to increase engagement and improve conversion rate.

Reduce and streamline support and maintenance of each individual website by creating a solution which can be managed easily by Ramsay’s central team.

The Design

We've updated Ramsay's online presence with an eye-catching new look. The site reflects the brand values of ‘The Ramsay Way’ which focuses on providing modern and sustainable healthcare through exceptional experience for their people, patients and doctors.

With such an extensive array of existing websites, the project relied on a collaborative effort across the human and Ramsay teams to consolidate large amounts of data and content to ensure we achieved a best in class solution.

Technology

The website is built using Optimizely’s CMS which provides a modern, fully composable suite of user-friendly tools.

The powerful CMS means that Ramsay were able to migrate large amounts of content from the individual sites without compromising on performance or speed during peak periods.

We replaced 36 individual hospital homepages, with a single dynamic page which pulls the required hospital data from the Optimizely CMS.

The Component Library

We created a design system & component library including a suite of UI components, guided by clear standards. This provides a structured and organised approach to design and development across Ramsay’s international digital estate.

We find this particularly effective with clients that require faster rapid prototyping and iteration. Designers can quickly create new layouts and interfaces using existing components, allowing for more user testing and feedback in less time.

Planning

The Process

During the planning phase we spent several days with the Ramsay team to define and refine the process for the project, agree roles and responsibilities and breathe life into the project plan. We then gathered requirements and documented them, several hundred post it notes later we have a defined list of objectives, personas and user stories.

UX & Design

Our first step was to outline a site structure based on the expected and desired behaviour of the users and illustrate this in an information architecture diagram. We could then move forward into the low fidelity wireframe creation, starting with the core user types. We then demonstrated and tested these wireframes to ensure Ramsay could feed into these core journeys as early as possible in the process. Designs were drawn up once the core functionality was agreed and we moved forward to high fidelity wireframes in HTML.

SEO

Our SEO team outlined the SEO strategy we needed to adopt in order to ensure the equity the original 36 websites had was maintained with the new website. This included a considerable amount of redirects, technical SEO requirements and content analysis.

Development

Once the IA, designs, wireframes and SEO strategy were all signed off, we moved into development. We documented all the user stories and associated tasks and subtasks with Dev Ops, allowing us to divide the project into sprints. The development team worked through the sprints. Deploying to the QA environment after each sprint allowed us to QA as further sprint development continued. Once development was complete, the entire site was deployed to QA for testing.

Content

There was a large amount of content through the existing websites and this needed to be refined and curated before it was migrated to the new one. We collaboratively worked through this with the Ramsay team, migrating specific pages, news and blogs.

Head of Digital Growth, Ramsay Health Care

Over the last fourteen years, Ramsay Health Care has developed a strong, long-standing and successful relationship with the human tech agency. They understand who we are as a business, provide digital solutions to accelerate our growth, and most importantly they understand who our customers are.

Their knowledge of digital and specialist cms development is extremely extensive and they have assisted in creating high quality functionality, plugins and backend developments. human have a great ‘can do’ attitude and always find technical solutions to produce functionality that exactly meets the brief and the deadline.

Testing

There was a large amount of content through the existing websites and this needed to be refined and curated before it was migrated to the new one. We collaboratively worked through this with the Ramsay team, migrating specific pages, news and blogs.

Security

To ensure Ramsay were deploying a robust and secure project they initiated a penetration test on the UAT environment. Only one minor defect was raised which was resolved quickly. This gave Ramsay the peace of mind that any and all the PII data was secure.

Deployment

Deployment was a smooth process using Optimizely’s automated deployments and the only tasks remaining on the day of go live was to switch the DNS for the individual URLs to point to the new one. Once this process was completed we entered a period of hypercare where we retained the development team for two after going live to ensure we were able to expedite any issues that were discovered.

The Future

Ongoing data analysis of the new platform will drive continuous improvement and as Ramsay continues to create more innovative, engaging features and capabilities. Leveraging the power of Optimizely Experimentation to the platform has the capacity to adapt and grow as a result.

If you want to improve people’s lives then
we’d love to work with you…
